PRINCIPAL CONDUCTS VIRGINITY TEST FOR PUPIL

Fourteen-year-old Esther (not real name), one of the victims of the virginity test that was allegedly conducted on pupils of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ogun State, by their principal, fears she might have lost her virginity. She spoke with our correspondent, on Sunday.

 Excerpts:

Why did you choose to do the virginity test when some pupils ran away?

I did not choose to do the test. After I and other female Senior Secondary School one pupils lined up in front of her (Olufunke Aladeojobi’s) office, I fled the scene but she noticed it and sent people after us threatening to deal with us.

Why didn’t you explain to her that you were not interested in the test?

I explained to her that my parents would be mad at me if they got to know that I did such a test without their consent but she brought out a cane and threatened to beat me mercilessly.

What happened afterwards?

Our principal marched me into her office and the school’s nurse asked me to put off my pants and laid me on the bed. She wore a glove, spread my thigh and dipped a finger into my private part. The school nurse then told the principal who was beside her that I was a virgin.

What did your principal do after the nurse said you are a virgin?

The principal said I “should not open my thigh” to any boy or man. She subsequently gave me two Ogun State customised exercise books.

Did you lose blood?

Yes, I lost blood. I didn’t notice it initially. It was the next person who saw me while dressing up that told me that my pants were stained with blood. But, I can’t say if it was the blood from my menstrual period because my menstrual period just ended or the blood was as a result of the virginity test.

Did your principal know you lost blood?

She didn’t because I left the place almost immediately and she was busy attending to other pupils.

How did your parents get to know about the incident?

I washed my blood-stained pants when I got home. I didn’t initially want to tell my mum but she noticed that I was keeping to myself. When she now queried to know what was wrong with me, I explained everything to her.

Did your principal warn you against telling your parents?

No, she didn’t. But I wouldn’t know what she might do to me if she got to know that I told my parents about it because she is strict and we all fear her. That was why I felt reluctant to tell my parents.

How have you been feeling since you underwent the test?

I have been doing fine just that I’m not happy about the incident because my classmates have been looking down on me. They keep saying that we have been “disvirgined.” I feel ashamed of myself.

Are you a virgin?

Yes. I have not had sex before but with what everybody is saying I don’t know if I am still a virgin. I really wish I’m still one..

US SENATOR ARRESTED OVER DRUNK DRIVING

U.S. Senator, Michael Crapo representing Idaho was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence in a Washington, D.C., suburb, authorities said.

Police in Alexandria, Va., said Sunday that the Idaho Republican was pulled over after his vehicle ran a red light. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said Crapo failed field sobriety tests and was arrested at about 12:45 a.m. He was transported to the Alexandria jail and released on an unsecured $1,000 bond at about 5 a.m., reports The Associated Press.

The 61-year-old Crapo has a January 4 court date.

"I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance," Crapo said in a statement Sunday night. "I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me. I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated."

A Mormon who grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Crapo was named a bishop in the church at age 31. He is an attorney who graduated from Brigham Young University and Harvard Law School. He has five children with his wife, Susan, and three grandchildren.

The Mormon Church prohibits the use of alcohol, as well as caffeine and other mind-altering substances......

EME BADDEST CONCERT

The crowd was in a frenzy  last Friday night, December 21, 2012 as some of Nigeria’s biggest superstars thrilled fans at the first ever EME live-in-concert in Lagos tagged “The Baddest” which held at the prestigeous Oceanview Restaurant in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The grand opening of the unforgettable concert had Wizkid, EME’s First Lady, Niyola and EME crooner, Shaydee sang the Nigerian national anthem kicking off jaw dropping performances from EME all-stars.
Led by EME Boss and R&B wonder, Banky W, the EME crew drove the crowd wild as they performed hit tracks from the “Empire State of Mind” album as well as individual club bangers.

LOS ANGELES: South Korean rapper Psy’s infectious viral hit song, “Gangnam Style,” made history on Friday as the first ever video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views, adding yet another record to the song’s juggernaut journey into mainstream pop.
The song, first posted on YouTube on July 15, clocked the 1 billion milestone at 10:50 am EST and YouTube marked the occasion with a dancing Psy doodle next to their logo.
The song also became YouTube’s most watched video last month, overtaking Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video, which previously held the title.
“I didn’t even imagine ‘Gangnam Style’ would get 1 million views, let alone 1 billion views! Is this the Tru-PSY show?” the rapper said in a statement.
This has been a whirlwind year for rapper Psy, 34, who is the first Korean pop (or K-pop) artist to achieve mainstream success in the US after “Gangnam Style,” named after the affluent Gangnam District in Seoul, captured viewers’ attention.
The rapper recently performed for President Barack Obama, met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and won the best video award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in November.
The video shows the outlandishly dressed Psy rap in Korean while performing an invisible horse-riding dance, which has become a pop culture trend, spurring many copycat and parody videos.
The popularity of the song has sparked growing international interest in Asian pop music, throwing a spotlight on the K-pop industry, which now aims to follow Psy into mainstream Western pop music
